Childlike Faith: Stop Going to the Ocean with a Teaspoon

“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

— Matthew 18:3 (NIV)

There’s something powerful about the faith of a child. It’s unfiltered. It doesn’t second-guess God’s ability. It doesn’t measure His capacity against the size of the problem. A child doesn’t try to “figure out” how God will do it — they just believe He will.

As adults, and especially as cybersecurity professionals, we tend to live in a world of threat models, risk assessments, logic, and contingency plans. We rely on control, structure, and predictability. And while these things are necessary in our line of work, they can be roadblocks in our spiritual life. They can cause us to approach an infinite God with limited expectations.

That’s like going to the ocean with a teaspoon.

The ocean is vast, deep, and seemingly without end — much like God’s power, grace, and provision. But instead of bringing barrels of belief, we show up with teaspoons of doubt. We ask small, dream small, and expect small. We whisper prayers that already have “Plan B” built in — just in case God doesn’t come through.

But children? They show up with buckets. They believe that when God says He’s Jehovah-Jireh — their Provider — He means it. When He says “no weapon formed against you shall prosper”, they don’t ask for caveats or context. They just trust.

Cybersecurity and the Faith Factor

In cybersecurity, we face complex adversaries with evolving tactics. We’ve got incident response plans, SIEMs, XDRs, and a steady stream of alerts. But even with all that tech, we know one breach can change everything.

Likewise, in life — no matter how well you’ve architected your career, finances, or future — it can all be turned upside down in a moment. That’s why childlike faith matters. It gives us the capacity to lean not on our own understanding, but to trust the One who sees beyond the dashboard.

Practical Takeaway: Upgrade Your Ask

Here’s your Cyber Deacon challenge for the week:

  • Stop praying safe prayers. Ask God for the things that scare you a little — the kind of prayers that sound crazy unless He shows up.

  • Stop preparing for disappointment. Pray with full expectation, like a child asking for ice cream — no doubt, just delight.

  • Stop limiting an unlimited God. Don’t let your teaspoon of faith be the measure of His miracle.

Faith Check-in:

🔐 Security mindset: “Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.”

✝️ Faith mindset: “Expect the best, because you serve the Greatest.”

There’s an ocean of God’s goodness in front of you. Healing. Provision. Breakthrough. Purpose. Forgiveness. Joy. Peace. All of it.

So stop going to the ocean with a teaspoon.

Bring a barrel. Bring a truck. Bring your whole heart.

And most importantly — bring your childlike faith.
